Date:

India delivered its best-ever performance at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, finishing with a record 114 medals — 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze. The achievement surpassed the country’s previous tally of 108 medals and featured world-record performances, historic victories and podium sweeps across several sports.

Notably, India achieved this milestone with a contingent of 168 para-athletes, compared with 309 athletes at the previous edition in Hangzhou.

India improved on its previous best of 108 medals, comprising 27 gold, 32 silver and 49 bronze. The earlier edition had initially recorded 111 medals, but three were subsequently stripped following doping charges involving two athletes.

Paralympic Committee of India President Devendra Jhajharia described the 114-medal achievement as a proud moment for Indian para-sports and credited the athletes’ dedication and growing support for the sporting ecosystem.

India enjoyed a strong campaign in para-badminton. Paralympic champion Nitesh Kumar defeated reigning world champion Pramod Bhagat 21-18, 21-16 in the men’s singles SL3 final, securing gold and an all-Indian finish.

Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manasi Girishchandra Joshi won gold in women’s doubles SL3-SU5. India also secured silver medals through Thulasimathi in women’s singles SU5 and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan in women’s singles SH6.

In para-archery, Harvinder Singh and debutant Vijay Sundi won men’s recurve doubles gold. Pooja Jatyan and Bhawna Choudhary claimed silver in women’s recurve doubles, giving India its first-ever medal in the event.

Indian athletes produced several outstanding results in track and field.

India added a bronze in para-table tennis through Jehan Dorab Madan and Shubham Wadhwa in men’s doubles Class MD4. At 50, Madan became the oldest member of India’s contingent to win a medal at the 2026 edition.
