8th All India Conference of GRP Chiefs Focuses on Railway Security

Date:

The 8th All India Conference of Government Railway Police (GRP) Chiefs concluded in New Delhi on October 23, 2026, with a focus on intelligence-led policing, technology-driven security and improved coordination among railway protection agencies.

Convened by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the conference brought together senior officials from States and Union Territories to discuss emerging security challenges and strategies to improve passenger safety across Indian Railways.

A key development was the onboarding of GRP personnel onto the RailMadad platform by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

The initiative aims to improve passenger grievance redressal, enable timely information-sharing and strengthen complaint monitoring.

The conference was presided over by RPF Director General Sonali Mishra and attended by Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar and other senior officials.

South Central Railway presented its women-led initiative, Pink Patrol: Eyes in the Sky, SHAKTI on the Ground. The programme combines drone-assisted surveillance with rapid-response teams to strengthen railway security.

Officials also discussed measures to prevent stone-pelting on trains, including:

  • Identifying vulnerable locations.
  • Increasing surveillance and patrolling.
  • Strengthening RPF-GRP coordination.
  • Conducting youth outreach and community awareness programmes.
  • Taking action against offenders.

With Diwali and Chhath expected to increase passenger movement, officials discussed advance security planning and crowd-control arrangements.

Northern Railway’s Delhi Division presented its coordinated measures with Delhi Police, GRP and Delhi Metro authorities. These include CCTV surveillance, public announcements, barricading, designated holding areas and dedicated control rooms.

Central Railway’s Pune Division showcased Project DISHA (Dedicated Initiative for Safety, Harmony and Awareness).

The initiative engages children living near railway tracks through educational and recreational activities, railway safety awareness sessions and community participation.

It works with NGOs, National Service Scheme volunteers and local communities to discourage unsafe practices such as trespassing, stone-pelting and theft.

The conference also discussed joint RPF-GRP training, sabotage prevention, narcotics-related information-sharing, digital evidence handling and standardised investigation procedures.

Participants identified stronger intelligence-sharing mechanisms, investigative capabilities and supporting infrastructure as important priorities.
